The Wichita Shakespeare Company (WSC) closes its 2013 Shakespeare-in-the-Park series with Cymbeline. In the play, one of the Bard’s most engaging heroines, Princess Imogen, marries her true love – defying the wishes of her father, King Cymbeline. In anger, the King banishes the young man and Imogen begins a perilous journey to be reunited with her husband. A wicked stepmother, sleeping potions, a war with the Romans, and a divine encounter with the god Jupiter, all factor in to the fanciful story – making this play a storybook fairy tale come to life (reminiscent of such films as The Princess Bride and the Harry Potter series).

In what will be a highly theatrical retelling of the story, this production of Cymbeline will feature a cast of only seven actors who will collectively assume about thirty roles in the show. The talented cast includes Don Wineke, Vonda Schuster, Cat Connolly, Nathan Ryan, Ed Belsan, and Jessica Gaddis.

The play is directed by veteran WSC director, Dan Schuster. Dan has directed such past WSC productions as Troilus and Cressida, Pericles, Coriolanus, and the Mary Jane Teall award-winning The Winter’s Tale.

All shows will begin at 7:00 pm, with an approximate running time of two hours. As always, the play is performed free to all audiences but donations are accepted and appreciated. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating and, of course, bug spray. In the event of inclement weather, there will be a message posted at 6 pm on the WSC line (316-655-2017) alerting if the show has been cancelled for that evening.
