“Hamlet”

Presented by the Wichita Shakespeare Company

The Wichita Shakespeare Company (WSC) closes its 2015 Shakespeare-in-the-Park series with “Hamlet.” Shakespeare’s famous tragedy of the Danish prince has been reimagined. In WSC’s version, Prince Hamlet is now a Princess. Additionally, several other gender reassignments of characters complete this unique vision for the show.

The play is directed by veteran WSC director and actor Mark Anderson. Anderson directed “Julius Caesar” for WSC in 2012 and has acted in multiple WSC productions – most recently last year’s “Love’s Labours Lost.” The impressive cast he has assembled for this production includes Chelsey Moore as Hamlet, Krista Nelson as Ophelia, and Danette Baker as Gertrude. Others in the cast include Dan Schuster, Jaime Blackwell, Danzel Muzingo Bond, Rusty Page Carbaugh, and John Lloyd Stafford III.

Shakespeare-in-the-Park will return to the very popular Central Riverside and College Hill Parks in Wichita. Parks in Andover, Park City, Derby, and Mulvane will complete the tour. Additionally, a special indoor performance will be held at the Wichita Scottish Rites Center. All shows will begin at 7:00 pm, with an approximate running time of one hour and forty-five minutes. As always, the play is performed free to all audiences but donations are accepted and appreciated. Those attending the park performances are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and, of course, bug spray. (Note: Seating will be provided for the indoor performance).

In the event of inclement weather, there will be a message posted at 6 pm on the WSC line (316-655-2017) alerting if the show has been cancelled for that evening.
